Outreach

Team 876 is very active in our own community, as well as many surrounding communities.

Here are some of our outreach activities:

The Dave Hedland Annual Golf Tourney

Each year, we work with the David Hedland family to put on a fun golf scramble with all the proceeds going towards robotics.

1.We have mentored our LEGO robotics, the Thunderbots, and helped the FLL program by refereeing at the FLL Regional and demonstrating the FRC robots for the young robotic students at the competition.

2.Team 876 initiated a competitive BEST regional in Fargo, ND that now enables over 28 area schools to have their own robotics programs.

3.We have an annual "Sponsors Night" at which we show our appreciation to all of the people and businesses that support us.

4.We have given talks about our program at many locations. One such place was the Western US Space Grant Consortium meeting in Oklahoma City.

5.We serve meals and demonstrate our robot each year at the Goose River Hoof and Wheels Association, a club that enjoys antique machinery and vehicles.

6.Our mentor Byron Borgen has initiated FTC in North Dakota. We had 6 teams present at our naugural tourney in Bismarck on Feb 24, 2012 and we hope to gain more teams as we continue to promote FIRST.

7.We remove the weeds and nurture the young trees in "Thunder Grove" which replaces the old grove that was destroyed by the tornado of 2007. These trees will eventually protect the recreational grounds used for the Demolition Derby and other activities.

8.We mentored many area FRC teams including East Grand Forks, Mahnomen, Grand Forks, Crookston, West Fargo, Thief River Falls, Mayville,  Moorhead and Badger.

9.Each year, we have given instructional presentations to FIRST teams at the Fargo FIRST Kickoff.

10.Team 876 promotes robotics by giving an instructional class to many area elementary school at the Marketplace For Kids, held at Northwood School.

11.When North Dakota hosts the Space Grant Consortium meetings, team 876 is there to demonstrate how they can utilize funding to help foster engineering in area schools.

12.We clean the huge Ralph Engelstad hockey arena, (which seats 11,400 people) to help raise awareness of FIRST and to get needed funding for our program.

13.Our team is working with the local Northwood Pioneer Museum to create an on-line "Museum without Walls" and to make video documentaries of veterans.

14.The students and mentors love to show off our robotic creations at local summer parades.

15.On several occasions, Team 876 has traveled to the ND State Capitol to demonstrate our program to the legislature and Governor.

16.Nursing homes and Alzheimer units provide a pleasant environment for the students and the residents as they demonstrate the robot.

17.Team 876 works with the local SMILE group, which helps young children by assigning them an older student as a friend and mentor.

18. We have sponsored and taught LabView programming seminars to area teams as a pre-season learning experience.
